Penlaw has a large number of Correspondent Lawyers in different jurisdictions specialised in different areas of practice. Penlaw cooperates closely with such lawyers for the benefit of clients either where the client wishes Penlaw to run the case whilst supervising the foreign lawyer or where the laws or courts of more than one country are invloved.

We deal with arbitrations in all jurisdictions without the use of local correspondants.  Where court work is required, where appropriate and where the client wishes, the foreign lawyer (for example in London ) carries out procedural steps upon our instructions and the cases are mainly dealt with directly by Penlaw in Paris .  This gives the client the benefit of having the case run by the lawyer he knows and trusts while using a local correspondant where necessary for procedural steps and local advice.  This has major advantages also in keeping costs much lower than they would otherwise be.  We have very close relations with barristers in London  (as well as with other solicitors firms) and can obtain top class advice quickly and efficiently.

We have particularly strong connections in North and West Africa , the Middle East including Lebanon , Egypt , Saudi Arabia and in certain emerging EC states such as Romania .  Due to our shipping practice we have very strong relations also with maritime lawyers worldwide, including in other European and Mediterranean countries, Africa, and the Middle East and have much experience in dealing with ship arrest and other urgent matters, as well as with substantive proceedings in such jurisdictions.
